Ryan drops Pats game ball in freshly dug hole at Jets camp

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Rex Ryan buried the New York Jets' embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots.

Literally.

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said the coach led the team out to the practice field before its morning meeting Wednesday, took a game ball from the 45-3 rout Monday night and placed it in a freshly dug hole.

"He said we're burying the game," Revis said, adding that the team didn't know what Ryan was going to do. Revis also said he has never seen anything like that.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick also did something similar after a loss to the Miami Dolphins in 2001. New England went on to win its first Super Bowl that season.

Ryan didn't mention the ball burial in his news conference, but he said he told the team it was time to move on from the loss.

"We certainly know what happened on Monday," Ryan said. "It's full steam ahead against Miami."

The Jets (9-3) take on the Dolphins (6-6) in a game in which Ryan is confident his team will bounce back.

"This will be a big win if we can accomplish it," he said. "It would be our 10th win of the season. Swagger or not, that's who we are. We're not going to dwell on this loss the rest of the season. We got beat. It is what it is. We're moving on."
