Packers cornerback Brandon Underwood pleaded not guilty to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an incident with his wife, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported Friday.
Underwood, a two-year veteran, appeared without an attorney at a Brown County, Wis., court for the Friday hearing. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 13, with a trial set for Sept. 26.
The misdemeanor charge against Underwood carries a penalty of up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
The charge is related to a June 16 incident. Underwood, 25, is accused of ripping a necklace off his wife, Brandie Underwood, on the night that Packers players and team officials received their Super Bowl rings at Lambeau Field. The team had given the necklace to Brandie Underwood earlier in the night.
A criminal complaint filed also stated that Brandon Underwood pulled his wife out of their car and threw her to the ground.
Brandie Underwood filed for divorce in May, according to online court records. She said earlier this month that she and her husband are receiving counseling and still living together. They have three young children.
Brandon Underwood was asked outside the courtroom if he expected to be back with the Packers in 2011.
"That's their decision, all I can do is be me," he told the Press-Gazette. "God always has a plan, and you don't worry about things you can't control. I can't stay in the past; I've got to keep moving forward."
Underwood finished last season with 10 tackles in limited playing time. The Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati.
