Marshall's wife charged with violating restraining order

The wife of Brandon Marshall has returned to jail after allegedly violating a restraining order issued after an April incident in which police say she stabbed the Miami Dolphins wide receiver.

Michi Nogami-Marshall was arrested Friday after a "verbal dispute" at the couple's home in Southwest Ranches, Fla., according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office arrest report, CBS4 Miami reported.

The Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to a 911 hang-up at the couple's home Friday morning. Despite a protection order requiring her to stay at least 500 feet from the home, Nogami-Marshall, 27, told deputies she had been living there while Marshall was out of town. When Marshall returned, an argument occurred, followed by the 911 call.

There was no sign of physical violence, deputies said.

“Clearly, the arrest today -- based on her actions, she had to be taken into custody because she violated a court order,” Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright told CBS4 Miami.

Nogami-Marshall was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after she allegedly stabbed her husband in the stomach with a kitchen knife on April 22. According to the arrest report, she admitted stabbing Marshall but said it was in self-defense. The Broward State Attorney's Office said in a statement that it was still investigating the incident.

Neither Marshall, who required surgery and was in intensive care following the April incident, nor his wife were cooperative Friday, Coleman-Wright said, and the Attorney's Office said investigators have encountered difficulty as they pursue the case.

"Despite numerous efforts, we so far have been unable to get Mr. Marshall to agree to voluntarily speak to our office about the incident," the Attorney's Office said in a statement. "We continue to diligently pursue this matter.”

Marshall initially claimed he suffered his stomach wound when he slipped and fell onto a broken glass vase, but the police report noted that there was "no blood within the immediate area to substantiate his claim."

The statement reads in part: “Despite numerous efforts, we so far have been unable to get Mr. Marshall to agree to voluntarily speak to our office about the incident. We continue to diligently pursue this matter.”

Marshall, who signed a five-year, $50 million contract last year after four seasons with the Denver Broncos, caught 86 passes for 1,014 yards in 14 games with the Dolphins last season.

Brunell getting finances in order, hopes for return to Jets

Mark Brunell is edging closer to an escape from bankruptcy.

The veteran quarterback filed for Chapter 11 last June, and on Tuesday U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jerry Funk gave conditional approval to the disclosure statement that details his plans to eliminate his debts, The Florida Times-Union reported.

Funk will set another hearing to confirm the reorganization plan once the statement gets final approval.

Brunell's lawyers will have to add more information in the disclosure statement before getting final approval from the judge. This came after objections from creditors seeking more details on the QB's finances.

As Brunell attempts to get his financial house in order, he has his eye on returning for his 19th season in the NFL.

Brunell, who spent last season behind Mark Sanchez, signed a two-year deal with the New York Jets in 2010, but the second year of the deal isn't guaranteed. The original filing said Brunell's "future income is highly uncertain."

Michael Freed, an attorney for Brunell, said the 40-year-old's future with the Jets is in doubt.

"If there is an opportunity to play, I expect he will," Freed told the Times-Union. "We're hopeful though."

Brunell became wealthy during a lucrative and successful NFL career that began with the Green Bay Packers in 1993.

He was the first quarterback for the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995, receiving three Pro Bowl nods with the team while entrenching himself in the community. But two failed business partnerships -- a real-estate development company called Champion LLC and an investment in 12 Whataburger restaurant franchises -- led the quarterback to serious financial trouble.
